With the promise of sunshine for the final day of 2025 we headed to Ely, to visit the Cathedral for the first time in a few years. I love the way sunlight can create such beautiful contrasts in any church, but Ely Cathedral always offers the opportunity for interesting photos. I went equipped with just one prime lens and this creative restriction helped me seek out scenes which suited this combination of camera and lens, including the astonishing medieval octagonal lantern.
As time ticked by the sun gradually moved around the Cathedral and I found smaller scenes in the choir and the north aisle where it added pools of illumination.
